Work with Julie in Brussels: Vacancy Open for an Administrator

Applications are invited for the position of administrator in the office of Julie Ward MEP, based at the European Parliament in Brussels.

Salary: Will depend on the chosen candidate's level of expertise experience, based on the European Parliament's system of salary grades for Accredited Parliamentary Assistants.

 Applications are invited for the position of administrator in the office of Julie Ward MEP, based at the European Parliament in Brussels.

After successfully campaigning and being elected in the 2014 European Elections, Julie is now looking to complete her Brussels office team with an administrator position.

 The administrator will be expected to perform administrative duties:

 • Help manage Julie's Brussels and Strasbourg diaries, including travel arrangements and bookings.

• Representing Julie at potential meetings in her absence and report back to her.

• General administration, correspondence and office duties.

• Organising meetings, conferences, visits, and receptions within the Parliament.

• Ensure that the office meets administrative and legal requirements, such as transparency statements on expenses.

• Other tasks, where necessary.

Note: Applicants who are recent university graduates and who seek policy experience in the European Parliament must take the administrative focus of this position into account.

To qualify candidates must in principle:

  • Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union or EEA (European Economic Area).
  • Be university graduates or have successfully completed three years' (at least six semesters') study at a university or equivalent institute of higher education.
  • Have excellent command of English, with command of French and other European languages will be considered an asset.
  • Have excellent organisational and communications skills, effective in situation of close team work, or independent work. Be capable of work under time pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Have experience in administrative work such as, the handling of contact databases, file handling, event organisation, casework, communications tools (social media: facebook, twitter and others), and website management.
  • Active citizenship and community engagement, such as volunteering, extra-curricular activities, NGO work, political activity, membership of the Labour Party or a sister political party, or social entrepreneurship will be considered an asset.   
  • Previous work experience in the Parliament or other EU institutions will be considered an asset.

This position will start in February 2015 and last any length of time up to the complete Parliamentary mandate, subject to an initial 3 month trial period.
