Weekly roundup

The highlights of my week in the European Parliament and in the UK

Last week was one of the most important weeks for me as an MEP - my report on the role of intercultural dialogue, cultural diversity and education in promoting EU fundamental values was adopted in the European Parliament with a big majority. This means that we're promoting measures to combat racism, discrimination and marginalisation in our communities. Have a look at my report here: http://www.juliewardmep.eu/ward_report_adopted5

We also voted for EU action to increase the skills of young people to help their employment prospects and for Europe's governments to do more to promote female entrepreneurship. It's no surprise that the Tories didn't back this! http://www.eurolabour.org.uk/eu-action-to-boost-female-entr…

Labour MEPs also stepped up efforts once again for Cameron to apply for the EU Solidarity Fund to help our flood hit communities. On Thursday morning, I was on BBC Radio Cumbria setting straight a few porkies that Cameron has told. There are millions of pounds up for grabs that could benefit the UK, but Cameron won't budge. It's even sadder knowing that we could have received 10% of the money by now... and another storm is on its way. When will Cameron put politics aside and do what's best for the people? http://www.juliewardmep.eu/eu_commissioner_confirms_uk_alre…

This weekend, I was back in the North West. I spoke in Manchester at a meeting of major UK arts organisations and cultural activists about how creatives and the cultural industries need to get behind the campaign for the UK to stay in the EU. I then went over to Knowsley in Merseyside to speak to the North West youth parliament at a debate about the refugee crisis. I also popped into the Dogs Trust Re-homing Centre to adopt a rescue greyhound called Kara. I travel so much that I can't have a dog, so as a dog-lover, this is a compromise! http://www.juliewardmep.eu/julie_s_newest_member_of_the_team

I'll keep updating you with what I'm doing week by week. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me at contact@juliewardmep.

Have a good week!

Take care,

Julie
