The EU should reconsider its relationship with Bahrain's Ombudsman

On March 20, Julie sent a letter to the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, raising her concern on the judicial harassment that targets Sayed Ahmed's family. Sayed Ahmed is a preeminent London-based Bahraini human rights defender.

In her letter, Julie also asks the EU to reconsider its relationship with Bahraini institutions, particularly the Ombudsman. This institution has been complicit in widespread and systematic human rights violations by the Bahraini authorities, but is still considered by the EU as a trustworthy human rights watchdog in the country.
