Julie's speech on a social triple A rating

Julie's speech to the March plenary session during a debate on the introduction of a social triple A rating.

I urge the Commissioner to look out for two upcoming reports that will come to the floor of this house: “Meeting Anti-Poverty Targets in Light of Household Costs”, for which I authored an Opinion and “Poverty from Women’s Perspective”.

We need strong impetus to meet the anti-poverty targets, and that includes having serious social focus for the European Semester, with a strong gender perspective.

Women are disproportionately at risk of poverty and social exclusion, and when we tackle the poverty that vulnerable women experience, we lift up the rest.

The European Union has the potential to build a socially just and truly equal Europe. We need to tackle gender inequalities if we are to make that vision a reality.
