Hours                                Full time (42 hours per week)

Salary                                Grade 3 – 7, dependant on experience

Contract                                  To start as soon as possible - until end of the mandate - June 2019 (3 month probation period)

Description

Julie Ward, Labour MEP for the NW of England, is recruiting a Parliamentary Assistant to lead on office management and administration and support her work in the Culture and Education and Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committees, on Regional Development and on human rights in the European Parliament office in Brussels, as well as a variety of Intergroups, eg. Anti-poverty, Child Rights, Youth, LGBTI, Disabilities.

 

Key Responsibilities

General office administration

Diary and email management

Organising meetings, events and group visits

Financial management of the office

Organising travel

Personal support for Julie

Supporting Brussels staff in their policy work

Supporting UK staff, particularly with communications

Liaising with and supporting work experience students, and persons job-shadowing Julie

Contributing updates to Julie‘s website

 

Person Specification

Educated to degree level or with 3 years relevant work experience

Efficient interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral

The ability to write succinctly and confidently

Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines

An ability to work proactively, independently and with minimum supervision

Trustworthy, discrete, confident and calm personality

Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Previous experience in the European Parliament is an advantage

An interest in current affairs and sympathetic to Labour Party values
