Caseworker: Job Description

Job Details:

Julie Ward MEP is looking for a highly professional and experienced individual to work in her busy constituency office on a full-time basis, but flexible working hours or a job share would also be considered.

This role involves providing information, advice and support to constituents on a variety of relevant issues, liaising with Government agencies, local authorities, the voluntary sector and others to help resolve matters on behalf of constituents or signpost to other more relevant organisations.

You will be expected, along with other members of the team, to provide Julie with summary information on casework, socio-economic trends and constituency issues and, when necessary, to provide reciprocal cover for other team members.

Job Description:

  • Meeting with and handling correspondence from constituents, providing advice and support on a variety of issues, including the European Union and North West related matters
  • Progressing own workloads, ensuring cases are dealt with in a sensitive, confidential, professional and timely manner with accurate records kept in adherence to the principles of the Data Protection Act
  • Attending meetings to assist the office in dealing with constituents’ issues
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation/guidelines, as appropriate
  • Producing a weekly briefing for the Office Manager and other summary material on constituency work for Julie and staff when required
  • Supporting other staff with tasks as required including marketing tasks

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience of handling casework, either in an MP’s office, MEP's office, the Civil Service, or a third sector organisation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Confidence in interacting with people at all levels and in a variety of circumstances
  • Ability to prioritise a demanding workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to deal with issues in a confidential manner
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team
  • Experience of a casework management system or similar database would be an advantage
  • Experience of working and dealing with the general public
  • Awareness of regional issues
  • Awareness and understanding of current political issues
  • Sympathetic to Labour Party values

Julie Ward MEP is looking for a highly professional and experienced individual to work in her busy constituency office. The role is full-time, but flexible working hours or a job share would also be considered.

This role is for an Office Administrator in a busy constituency office in the UK. The role will require co-operation with Julie Ward’s team at the European Parliament in Brussels. The job will involve managing the office inbox and diary, being the first point of call for Julie Ward in the North West, taking initiative to adapt organisational processes as well as supporting the UK Office Manager.

It is a lively environment and you will be expected, along with other members of the team, to be up-to-date on current affairs, especially those impacting the region. The role is suited to someone who is both admin-efficient and politically-minded.

Job Description:

  • Managing the constituency inbox, disseminating key information to relevant team members
  • Diary management for the constituency office, liaising with the team in Brussels when necessary
  • Organising meetings, events and group visits
  • Drafting letters and emails and liaising with appropriate agencies
  • Supporting UK Office Manager
  • Liaising with other UK and Brussels staff when required
  • Updating subscriptions, insurances and other key administration duties
  • Working on transparency statements
  • Supporting other staff with tasks as required including marketing tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

    Person Specification:

  • Educated to degree level or with 3 years relevant work experience
  • Experience in a high-level administrative role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organising meetings, events and group visits
  • Confidence in interacting with people at all levels and in a variety of circumstances
  • Ability to prioritise a demanding workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to deal with issues in a confidential manner
