On the occasion of the International Women's Day (Sunday 8th of March), the S&D Group in the European Parliament calls for a strong European commitment to strengthen gender equality. According to a UN research*, women are the most vulnerable group being affected by austerity measures arising from the economic crisis, such as job cuts in public sector or cuts in early childhood education services. S&D MEPs denounce that situation, pointing out the worrying 16% gap between men and women's salaries. As for pensions, that figure goes up to 39%**.
In order to raise awareness on the issue, Julie gathered with other S&D MEPs to play a board game created by the European Women's Lobby and highlighting the impact of austerity measures on women's economic independence.
